Mum talk

We went to visit Kristians work yesterday. Well, actually we just went to meet him for lunch, as office and lab according to the Professor are too dangerous for children...anyway, some of Kristians female co-workers, who happens to have babies themselves, were anxious to meet Selma and Villads and came down to have lunch with us as well.

I can't tell you how nice it was to have an interesting conversation about substantial topics again; Questions were flying through the room: How much does he weigh? What does he eat? Where can I buy baby food? Do you breastfeed? How long was your maternity leave? etc. etc. I don't know why Kristian tried to disturb the interesting subject by posing irrelevant questions like: What is it like to be working for the Professor? and: What would you recommend that we see here in Tokyo ;-)

I guess it means two things:
1: I miss all you mums out there
2: There is a reason why men are seldom in a toddler group;-)

Seriously speaking, it was great meeting these women and hearing a little bit about how it is to have kids here. One of them just came back from maternal leave, her son was 2 months old. The baby is in the nursery all day from 8.30 AM-19PM, and the mother even has to supply breast milk for the whole day, since it is recommended here that you breastfeed your baby for the first year. I can't imagine how hard that must be. I'm a lucky potato!!!

Another thing we learned yesterday, which will delight Selma, is that there is a 'Hello Kitty Land' near Tokyo. Maybe it doesn't come as much of a surprise, but it is not listed in our guidebook (no surprise there either). Having seen her in a toy store with a whole floor dedicated to Hello Kitty, I know for sure that she will run berserk in 'Hello Kitty Land'.

The best thing 'the mums' told us, however, was that coming monday is a holiday! Long weekend! Sweet, sweet, sweet!!!

As for today: Kristian hit his head against the door frame 3 times in 2 hours. You would think he is getting used to having to bend down by now, but apparently not. Besides from that we survived the typhoon!!! Everybody yesterday was talking about this big typhoon coming, and this morning the trains weren't running and some schools were closed, but fact was, that it was a beautiful day. Windy, yes, but also warm and sunny. Perfect weather for a picnic at the local playground, for talking to one of the (french) mums, who happened to get stuck with her kids because of the school shutting down, for eating lots of ice cream and to end this post in a real hausfrau manner; perfect weather for doing laundry!!!
