Ueno Zoo and Roppongi Hills on Saturday

Big plans for Saturday, Sebastians birthday! Denmark and Germany both had important soccer games, and we wanted to go to Ueno to visit the Zoological Garden. Great place for a 3 year old not only with zoo but also carrousels, playground and fountains. We weren't the only family there, obviously. But during the week we hardly ever see any children, so here was a good chance to see japanese families and it was clear that they enjoy spending time with their kids. Not the worst place to see for adults either. There were some nice temples and shrines.

Unbelievable, we ran into the 'intergalactic' Beastie Boys...

After the Zoo we went to Roppongi, which is renown for being the place where foreigners go out, but in the meantime it has gotten a bit more sophisticated. The main reason was to get to a City Bank, which is the only bank that takes our visa. We were quite happy to be there, however, as we got to go and visit the Mori tower which has a view point on 52nd floor. Pretty amazing. Beats the view from Fernsehturm in Berlin big time. There is just no end to the city to see.

After having been to up for the grand city view on 52nd floor, we strolled through a museum on 53rd floor. The exhibit was from a contemporary chinese artist, Ai Wei Wei. He was involved designing the 'Birds nest' olympic stadion in Beijing. It was a really interesting exhibit and Kristian was so impressed that he couldn't stop taking photos. Selma kept asking: "Warum ist Papa so langsam heute?". We will spare you for all of them, but here are a few:

Funny how it was allowed really to take photos, because it wasn't allowed to chew chewing gum and it wasn't allowed for Selma to be sitting on Kristians shoulders. The japanese are funny - so correct. As we went to the zoo in the morning there were some rides that Selma tried. She was more or less the only child there, but they were still very strict that she came in through the entrance and went out through the exit, although the 2 gates were directly next to each other. A bit difficult for a 3 year old to understand...

A little bit annoying that we have to find a Citibank every time we need cash. It is the only one where foreigner can withdraw money. Other banks do not accept foreign cards and in general the Japanese follow the german saying 'Nur Bares ist Wahres', so you cannot just draw your VISA card to spoil daughter and wife.
Sometimes Tokyo is futuristic but here it is definately not. Enough complaining... Germany and Denmark are going to win tonight and another two days of family sightseeing are waiting!

See you later,
The Reckzehs.
